The ‘Tag Team’ writers of ‘Make it Write' present us with an uplifting look at a park as it goes through the seasons and meets new and old friends. The park keeper is retiring, he’s seen the young grow old, the seasons change and friendships form. The characters in this play are just like you and me, we follow these people who experience happy accidents, lost connections and fate. Parklife is a new play written by writers who take a sideways look on life, love and loss. “Time passes, seasons change, the bench remains.” People from all walks of life have visited this bench, all finding a moment of peace, laughter or a listening ear, some coming to remember and others to forget. Parklife centres around this bench, the one that has seen a lost boy who never met his real dad, a wandering man who never knew his son, the old woman who talks to spirits and a man whose childhood was stolen. People come to sit, meet up, work and to escape. Chance meetings aplenty! This has been a unique writing experience! The many voices within this play give it a deep richness.”Ī park bench has seen an awful lot in its life. Working on a play as a writer can be a solitary experience, but with Parklife I worked with eight other writers. “Parklife is about chance meetings, lost connections and happy accidents. Accidental, or not so accidental encounters can lead to brand new friendships, romances or even allow you to uncover unanswered questions and inspire a new path in life. You could be a minute late in the morning and that one minute changes the course of your life. Everything in your life is unique to you, the decisions you make day to day influence the life you lead. I absolutely love this concept and nine playwrights from the North West have brought this idea to lifeĭirected by Elaine Stewart, Parklife explores the infinite possibilities we as humans have when meeting and connecting with strangers. Imagine the stories something as simple as a tree could tell you, imagine what it has seen throughout its life. I've always found the thought, ‘if this object could talk, what would it say?’ really interesting.
